Often nicknamed the balcony of Umbria, Montefalco is famous for its Sagrantino wine and its position high in the hills which allows one views over to Perugia, Assisi and even Spoleto. Although Montefalco today still retains some elements of its Roman origin, the atmosphere of this charming small wine town is very medieval. Torgiano is one of Umbria’s wine towns with the surrounding countryside carpeted with vineyards. The town itself has only two main streets, Corso Emmanuele and Via Garibaldi and once was a small river port. Inhabited since the Roman era, it was rebuilt during the Middle Ages and later played a part in history as being one of the towns responsible in protecting Perugia as it sits just 15 km south.
